The 115 charges special

Aim of the game

An independent commission found that £830.69m booked as Abu Dhabi sponsorship at Manchester City between 2009-10 and 2017-18 was really paid by the owners. Your job: balance the books and still win the same trophies. Clear each season's owner money by never signing players. A cut saves his fee and his wages, and anything you save carries into later seasons. But every player you cut takes his goals and assists with him, for that season and every one after. Then switch on the telly and see what survives.

Difficulty
Hard: player stats hidden, so you cut on cost and instinct.
Easy: each player's Premier League goals and assists for City are shown.

Signings this season Fee plus wages saved

Only the owner money counts, not the sponsors' genuine payments. Cutting a player saves his transfer fee in the season he signed, plus his wages for every season he would have been on City's books up to 2017-18. Savings carry forward as credit. Wages from 2013-14 on are fbref/Capology figures; earlier seasons use press reports from the time, so treat those as estimates. Signings count in the window they arrived: the summer before the season, or the January during it.
